Pinterest is an amazing visual social network.  You can use it to make friends, find interesting recipes, learn about cleaning hacks, tips and tricks about anything, and more!  For blogging, Pinterest is awesome because its an incredible traffic source.  With a few tweaks to your account, you can have hundreds of thousands of visitors hitting your website.

Here are 10 awesome (and actionable) Pinterest tips to take your traffic to the next level (no course required):

Tip #1.) Add a great photo

For a blog, I recommend using your personal photo.  People can connect with a personal picture much better than a brand logo.  I have tried both options and had way better results with my personal photo.  This one is so easy.  Find your favorite head shot and post it in your bio.

Pro Tip: Don’t use a goofy, funny photo. It should be professional-like (haha) not, a sorority party photo or a duck face selfie (do you remember duck face?)

Tip #2.) Add a poppin’ description

Ok , so you need an amazing description. Make sure it’s keyword-rich.  Keyword-rich means, after you have researched your blog’s keywords, add them in your profile description. That’s it.

Tip #3.) Make sure you have pins embedded in EVERY.SINGLE.BLOG.POST

This one is non-negotiable folks.  Add 1+ pin images to each blog post.  You do want your visitors to repin your content across the web and make it easy for them.  Go back through all your posts pronto and do this, even if you have 100 posts. You’ll notice a drastic increase in traffic, quick!

Tip #4.) Make your pins pretty

This means you want to have an attractive, non-ugly pin.  You can do some A/B testing until you figure out your style. Then, when you do settle on a template to use over and over, it’ll take a few seconds to crank out a new pin for your latest post. Make sense?

Now, A/B testing means you pit pin “A” again pin “B” and see which one does better.  You judge the performance according to repins and engagement. Whichever one does better, you keep. That is all.

Tip #5.) Make your pin descriptions keyword rich

Same as with your profile. Make sure your descriptions are a minimum of 100 words long and filled with keywords from your blog post.

Tip #6.) Pin often

Pin daily and pin often. To start, I recommend pinning at least 25 times per day. I know it sounds like a lot, but it’s not, especially if you use pinning tools like Tailwind or Boardbooster.  These two tools both have free trials and the paid versions are very affordable.

Tip #7.) Use tools to make life easier

Yes! Set it and forget it with pinning tools.  Here’s an easy list of tools to get you started:

• Tailwind
• Boardbooster
• Buffer
• Massplanner
• Hootsuite

Tip #8.) Set up a BUNCH of boards

This is at least 10 boards, my friend, but more is better. I currently have 62 boards, which includes the 25+ group boards I am in.  Niche down your boards, which means to get really specific. Think about what you would search for if you were using Pinterest as a member of your own blog audience.

Pro Tip: Use Pinterest’s smart search feature to find keywords. Start typing in a term and pause so Pinterest can give you a drop down of related terms. Use those terms to your advantage.

Tip #9.) Monetize your Pinterest account

Do you have affiliate links? Put em’ on Pinterest.  Now allowed! Don’t forget to add the hashtag #ad and carefully review these rules.  Add a pretty pin, keyword-rich description, and then pin away linking to your affiliate product.

Tip #10.) Join group boards

Join Pinterest group boards! It’s a great way to collaborate with fellow bloggers and get your pins seen by a bigger audience. Some of the boards I’m in have as many as 100K followers!  Don’t forget to follow the rules. Each board creator usually has a set of rules (some don’t) and they’re posted in the description. Examples: 5x daily max, no repeat pins, no horizontal pins, etc.

Find boards by perusing your favorite big blogger’s Pinterest account and try to join the ones they are in and/or use Pingroupie (psstt..it’s free)!
